Row-column arrays have long been viewed as a promising alternative to fully populated 2D arrays for volumetric ultrasound imaging, thanks to their larger footprint and reduced channel count. However, their field of view has traditionally been limited to the array’s “shadow.”
In this latest work, the CFU team addresses that limitation by integrating a diverging lens and developing a novel beamformer, significantly broadening the field of view. This breakthrough paves the way for more comprehensive volumetric imaging while preserving the advantages of row-column arrays, potentially transforming the future of ultrasound imaging.
